Godfrey Holterhoff
The Cincinnati Holterhoff Halloway Branch of the Family
Notes by Frieda on some of the people listed in the family chart of the "Cincinnati Holterhoffs":
Godfrey Holterhoff Sr.
Godfrey was often referred to as "Uncle Godfrey". He and his wife lived in the family home called "The Lindens" in the Avondale suburb of Cincinnati. Godfrey
was close to his sister, Clara Holterhoff Willius, and often came to St. Paul to visit the Willius family.
Helene Guise Holterhoff
Helene was known by the family as "Aunt Lennie". She had a sister, who married Charley Stevens. The sister was often referred to as "Aunt Lizzie".
Godfrey Jr. (or Godfrey II) Holterhoff
Also referred to as "Cousin Godfrey". He was treasurer of the western branches of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad; also officer and Director of
many other corporations.
Mrs. Louise Schaefer Lewis Holterhoff
Louise's marriage to Godfrey was her second.
Leila Holterhoff
Leila was the Louise's daughter by her previous marriage. Leila was blind and became a great singer.
Ida Holterhoff
Ida was an artist of note and well known for her water color paintings in the art circles of Cincinnati where she lived.
Charles Robert Holterhoff
Charles never married. He was a lawyer and member of the faculty of the Los Angeles Law School.
Ralph Holterhoff
Also referred to as "Cousin Ralph". Ralph worked for the State Mutual Life Insurance Co. He was a very close friend of Henrietta Willius, his first cousin and
Frieda's aunt. Etta and Ralph corresponded "voluminously" and went on vacations together. Etta's nieces often speculated that there was a romance
between them. Ralph was a great athlete and sportsman. Frieda writes that many of his letters reflect his love for football and other sports. He didn't marry
until he was 40 years old.

Frieda's Scrapbook
Norman Claussen was Frieda Claussen's brother. The Claussen and Goldsmith cousins played together at the Goldsmith house at White Bear Lake and, after it was built, at the Claussen house nearby. The Relfs had a summer home next to the Claussen house.
Correspondence
Frieda corresponded with the family through the '70's and '80's. Then contact must have been lost. At the time of the last letter, 1987, Frieda was 90 years old.
The families became reconnected in the '90's and the 2000's through Godfrey Holloway Pflager. Godfrey contacted Jeff Willius for genealogical information in 1996.
In the fall of 2000 I sent copies of the Holterhoff genealogy to family members and received thank you's and more family information.
This was also sent by Nancy Koch Holterhoff. The card signed "The Holterhoffs" must be from the man named Hilmar Holterhoff who is mentioned in the e-mail.
I had noticed paintings by Ida Holloway hanging on the wall of our family's lake house. They were probably gifts to Etta Willius, who was her close family friend. I felt they should go to Holloway family members. So in 2009 I found Godfrey on Facebook and offered to mail them to him. He was happy to have them and gave them to his brother's children, Lila Holloway Pflager and John Terrell Pflager.
